Isaiah Hartenstein

C, Zalgiris

The Washington Wizards have been on a tear recently and are a ridiculous Lebron James shot away from looking even better. The team, though, still could use some depth to fill out its rotation as its perimeter pieces mature. Zalgiris center Isaiah Hartenstein can provide that depth with some nice potential as a massive mismatch on the offensive end.

Hartenstein is most attractive because of his ability to attack opposing defenders from the perimeter. At 7-foot, he’s a fluid athlete who can handle the ball like many guards. His 3-point shot is still developing — he takes a lot, but doesn’t make a lot — but once it comes around, he should be able to aggressively attack close outs, opening up his offensive game even more. In an NBA that increasingly emphasizes versatility, Hartenstein provides plenty of potential on offense.

On defense, Hartenstein’s athleticism translates well in terms of his ability to move along the perimeter and guard smaller players. Although his effort isn’t always there, it’s a fascinating piece of upside that helps round out his draft profile. Hartenstein doesn’t really have the length to be very impactful on the boards or as a rim protector, though.
