Philadelphia Eagles

NFC, East

The Philadelphia Eagles made a trade prior to the 2016 NFL Draft, locking up the second overall pick in the first round. The team spent that pick on Carson Wentz, a quarterback from North Dakota State. While Wentz was expected to begin the season as a backup behind Sam Bradford, he would wind up starting all 16 games, due to the fact Bradford was traded to the Minnesota Vikings during the preseason.

While Wentz had his share of rookie moments during the 2016 NFL season, it was clear that the team made the right choice in trading up to select him. Going forward, the Eagles have their quarterback in place, and now they need to add weapons around him. Last season, Jordan Matthews was the team’s WR1, which means they need to bring in a legitimate star at the position for the 2017 season.

Matthews is a solid wide receiver, but he is in no way a franchise guy at the position. Alshon Jeffery would give the team a true WR1, and enable Matthews to play the correct role in the Eagles offense. In order for Wentz to take the next step in his development, the organization needs to bring in a true threat on the outside, and Jeffery would fill that role perfectly.

Philadelphia has a couple of solid tight ends, and Darren Sproles proved in 2016 that he has a lot left in the tank. The NFC East sent two teams to the postseason in 2016, so the Eagles cannot afford to take a step back going into next season. Jeffery would give the Eagles their best wide receiver since Terrell Owens, whose talent helped lead the organization to a Super Bowl berth in the early 2000s.
