Florida State Seminoles

Last week: 20-4, 8-3 ACC
Last rank: 11

The talent is certainly there for Leonard Hamilton and there are some terrific wins on Florida State’s resume, but the Seminoles have been prone to some clunkers in recent weeks.

Florida State crushed sliding NC State on Wednesday night in Tallahassee, picking up its third straight win of at least 18 points. The momentum wouldn’t last in a weekend trip to South Bend, as Notre Dame controlled the Seminoles in a 12-point victory.

A road loss to a top 25 Notre Dame team isn’t concerning, but the Seminoles were outplayed in every aspect of the game from the opening tip. Florida State shouldn’t be getting outrebounded by the Fighting Irish due to its huge size advantage, and the Seminoles shot just 3-for-15 from beyond the arc.

The Seminoles still rank a solid 13th in KenPom with balanced marks on both ends of the floor and might have the most depth of any title contender. Still, this team doesn’t always play to its full potential, as things like shot selection have been an issue in losses to Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Syracuse.

Florida State will get a few days off before a trip to Pittsburgh on Saturday, giving it a chance to move into first place in the ACC.
