German Shepherd wins Best in Show at Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

The hounds huddled up, but only one would be crowned Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Outside of the Puppy Bowl, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is the premiere event for dog owners from all over. Many also look at the event as an ode to a human’s four-legged furry friend. For the 141st time, Madison Square Garden hosted this year’s dog show, which featured seven categories: herding, sporting, non-sporting, toy, hound, terrier and working. A majority favorite, the working group, astonished the MSG crowd with a total of 40-even dogs from the Akita to the boxer.
Over the years, the show has seen the likes of various champions. Last year, C.J. the German Pointer won over the heart of the main judge. As a German Pointer, C.J. represented only the 19th dog from the sporting group at an event with a history that dates back to 1877. And since 1877, the terrier group has been the dominant choice, claiming 46 winners. For perspective, that’s triple the amount of second place, the sporting group.
Despite all the rankings and grooming of the fur coats, dogs will never be limited to those placements. The only purpose of this event is to revere how our furry friends evolved throughout their own life spans. Dogs have so many purposes outside of who places first. That said, it goes without saying that all dogs are champions and most humans are okay with that fact.

Some people say that a dog can be the guardian of one’s castle. Dogs are also a great addition to the family when it comes to socializing with kids. Generally speaking, the psychological power that a canine has over a human is incomparable. They can help heal the emotional wounds of a war veteran, while also serving as an important component in taming farmers’ cattle. However you look at it, it’s a magnificent and irrefutable relationship between two species.
