5 players who will take advantage of the NBA trade deadline
It’s time for Lou Williams to move on from the Lakers. Averaging a career-high 18.5 points per game, Williams is having a great year but doesn’t fit with the timeline of the Lakers youth movement. Rumor has it that the Lakers are looking to deal Williams as soon as they can in hopes of keeping their 2017 and 2019 first-round picks. With the stat line Williams is putting up this year, the Lakers could be aiming high in return value.
Williams can clearly still play at a high level. At 30-years-old, a lot of teams would be happy to have him coming off the bench. One of those teams may be the Cavaliers. Cleveland has been pushing hard for a playmaker off the bench. If they have what the Lakers are looking for, Cleveland may be the landing spot for Williams.
Williams is praying he ends up with the Cavs. As a sharpshooting guard who can control the ball, the Cavaliers are his perfect match. For someone who’s been searching for a home for 12 years, Williams would be a great fit for Cleveland. He’d be surrounded by veterans and would only be counted on as an active scorer in the second unit. Not having to worry about anything more than his game, Williams would become even more dangerous.
The Lakers have been shopping him. Now that they’re down to the last week, they’ll make a move on Williams. Lucky for him, they’ll probably send him a contender who will value him more than L.A. does.
