Washington State Cougars

Last week: 11-14 (4-9 Pac-12)
Last rank: 7

If it seems like the only good basketball in the state of Washington is being played by Gonzaga then you would be right because it is. Losers of four straight games, the Cougars have all but exhausted any chances of playing in the postseason. The Cougars have had a routine over the last few weeks in which they play a close game but get blasted the next. That kind of inconsistency will get you nowhere fast and it’s become more clear that Washington State is not ready to take that next step after such an optimistic start to the 2017 conference campaign.

Stanford Cardinal

Last week: 12-13 (4-9 Pac-12)
Last rank: 9

The Stanford Cardinal drop this week after a rough weekend out in the desert. On Thursday night, the Cardinal slugged it out with the top-ranked Arizona Wildcats and while they suffered the expected loss, things didn’t get better against Arizona State. On Saturday, the Cardinal dropped to 1-3 in their last four games as Arizona State’s clutch shooting put them over the kids from Palo Alto. While Jarred Hasse’s program will take a few seasons to rebuild they’ll have to find a way to get over the hump against teams like Arizona and Arizona State because it’s those games that can make and/or break a season.
