4. Boston Celtics

Boston has been linked to Jahlil Okafor trade rumors before. The rumor that the Celtics may part ways with a future Brooklyn first round pick in exchange for the big man seems far-fetched now but the two sides could re-visit talks. The Celtics may now be able to dangle a different first round pick and a player to acquire Okafor. The lower cost in this trade may propel Celtics GM Danny Ainge to unload some assets and make a move.

The Celtics currently start out with Al Horford, a skinnier, more skilled big at center. To help counter this, they start Amir Johnson, who’s primary role is to rebound and guard stronger big men. The 29-year-old Johnson is a serviceable vet, but he could be a liability to a team with visions of a deep playoff run. Reserve big men Kelly Olynyk, Tyler Zeller, and Jonas Jerebko aren’t bruisers on the block either. Okafor could come in and play a role that helps make this Celtics team even better.

Okafor would make the Celtics fifth ranked defense worse if he was acquired. However, coach Brad Stevens has proved he can scheme to the strengths of his team. He should be able to help the big man fit in a role and be a passable on that end. Offensively, he would give second units a punch that they sometimes lack. In the best matchups he could potentially even close games next to Horford. Boston never really filled Jared Sullinger’s role after this summer and may be able to do that and then some with Okafor.
