New York Giants

NFC, East

For the New York Giants, the 2016 NFL season meant a return to the playoffs. First-year head coach Ben McAdoo was able to get the G-Men back into the playoffs for the first time since 2010, as he did a great job taking over for the departed Tom Coughlin. The Giants defense played much better than it did in 2015, as the organization used free agency to turn a weakness into a strength.

One area where the Giants looked stagnant was on offense, where the unit looked a bit vanilla for most of the season. Despite the fact that the team was loaded at the wide receiver position, the Giants offense failed to put points on the board with any real consistency. The real issue was that they just did not have much of a running game to speak of, and that is definitely an area where they will be looking to upgrade this offseason.

As mentioned earlier, Latavius Murray played his high school ball in upstate New York, putting together an impressive career that landed him at the University of Central Florida. While he has been a very good player on the west coast, a move back east could mean a return to his Pro Bowl status from 2015. The Giants need somebody who is going to take the pressure off of the passing game, and Murray has shown the ability to do that during his time with the Raiders.

Quarterback Eli Manning is getting up there in age, and for Giants fans, they have to be thinking that the time is now for the team to make another run. He may not have a ton of years left in him, and during the team’s Super Bowl wins, good play from the running back position was a constant. Murray may not be the best running back available this free agency period, but his skill set would play very well for the Giants next season.
