The Tennessee Titans were right outside of the playoff picture in 2016. Who are some free agent targets that could get them into the playoffs in 2017?

The Titans are in a pretty good spot as a franchise. To start, they found their franchise quarterback. On top of that, Marcus Mariota is on his rookie contract, which means that the team has a plethora of cap space that isn’t tied into quarterback for the short term. They can spend now, and front load some contracts to attack some big name free agents. So who are the bigger name free agents that the Titans may be adding to their core in 2017?

5. Morris Claiborne

The biggest weakness on the Titans defense is most certainly their secondary. Their only cornerback even worth starting consideration is Jason McCourty. McCourty is serviceable, but it could be argued whether or not he should be a number one option moving forward. Wit that said, this team has to attack cornerback hard in both the draft and free agency.

Claiborne would be a nice fit. He does everything that a cornerback in the Dick Lebeau defense would need to do. He keeps things in front of him, and he can tackle after the catch. Claiborne can play man and zone and can attack the run as well. Some may be nervous that the former top five pick has only really had one good season, and it was last year. On top of that, his only good season was cut down by injury, missing nine games in 2016.

Still, Claiborne is just 26 years old, and with the looming questions, he will not be the first cornerback on everyone’s wish list. However, a couple of years from now he may be the best one on this free agent list, and if the Titans are going to get a discount on him, the juice is absolutely worth the squeeze.
