2017 NFL Mock Draft: Patrick Mahomes on the rise
By Brad Weiss
When the Philadelphia Eagles made Carson Wentz the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, nobody was really thinking he would be the starter in Week 1. The Eagles already had Sam Bradford starting for them, and had recently paid Chase Daniels a ton of money to be the team’s backup. Wentz was slated to sit and learn in year one, but all that changed when Teddy Bridgewater blew out his knee during the preseason.
The Eagles traded Bradford to the Vikings, clearing the way for Wentz to be named the starter for Week 1. While Wentz struggled at times, he is clearly the answer at the position going forward, and now the organization needs to put some weapons around him. Jordan Matthews did a decent job as his top option in 2016, but the time has come for them to draft a wide receiver high and give them a true WR1.
John Ross of the Washington Huskies helped his team to the College FOotball Playoff this past season, as he emerged as the best wide receiver in the Pac-12. Ross can do it all from his wide receiver position, and is very good at making the big play down field. Eagles fans are some of the best in the NFL, and they would absolutely love the big play ability that Ross brings to the field every time he steps on it.
