Buffalo Bills: 5 offseason needs
2. Safety
Even more than cornerback, safety will need to be addressed this offseason. Aaron Williams was a great performer for the Bills defense when he was on the field. However, he suffered a season-ending neck injury, has a plethora of other injuries on his resume, and if he retired, it would not be the worst thing for his health and his family. Even if he is to come back, who knows what kind of level it will be at. Corey Graham has been a nice addition, but he is 31 years old and is a free agent after the 2017 season.
With that said, depth and youth are the two keys for the Bills when it comes to addressing the safety position. The class seems to have two premier safety prospects in Malik Hooker and Jameel Adams. If either is on the board at pick ten, the Bills would have to be enticed to make the move.
If not, they should still draft a safety at some point. Barry Church and Tony Jefferson are names to watch if Williams is unlikely to return. If Williams is to return, a young unproven name like Shamarko Thomas could be worth a shot, and a piece of depth to say the least. Micah Hyde is another depth free agent who can play essentially every secondary position, which would help with a variety of their questions.
