Los Angeles Chargers free agency 2017: Top 5 targets
By Brad Weiss
During the Chargers Week 1 loss at the Kansas City Chiefs, star wide receiver Keenan Allen tore his ACL on a non-impact play. Throughout his career, Allen has had a propensity to get injured, which makes his status as a top wide receiver a question mark. The Chargers need to bring in someone who can assume that role in 2016, and Alshon Jeffery just may be available during the free agency period.
Jeffery has been the main man in Chicago since they drafted him back in 2012, though he battled through some off the field stuff in 2016. Jeffery was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy, though he did return prior to the end of the season. When he is right, he is one of the best wideouts in the game, and would give Philip Rivers a target like he has never seen from that position.
Even if Allen does come back healthy, the organization cannot rely on him to stay on the field. Adding a player of Jeffery’s caliber would give the Bolts a major star in their first season in La La Land. He definitely still has the ability to be a top performer in this league, and in San Diego, he would finally have a quarterback who can get him the ball in places where he can make things happen.
