Three reasons the Philadelphia 76ers are the real winners of the DeMarcus Cousins trade
By Noah Torr
1. More picks!
The Kings have been crucial to the Kings future success. In addition to the 2017 pick swap, the 76ers also have rights to the Kings 2019 unprotected first round pick.
Wow.
Also acquired in the Stauskas deal, the 76ers have rights to the Kings 2019 first round draft pick with no conditions limiting the pick. Considering the Kings will still be bad and Vlade Divac will still be the Kings GM, this pick will be in good shape. It may be comparable to this year’s Brooklyn Nets pick. Sam Hinkie definitely set up the 76ers for the future.
The 2019 draft may not be as deep as this year’s draft, but a possible number one pick in any draft will be helpful to a team.
Ultimately the Kings have hit free fall Brooklyn Nets “rebuild” mode. Who knows when and if the Kings will ever be considered “good.”
Next: How the Cousins trade affects the pick swap
Oh well. Cousins was bad news for the franchise anyways. It will be interesting to see how the rebuilding process goes for the Kings.
Maybe this will be the best move they ever made. Maybe the worst.
