3. Detroit Lions

Of course, with most free agents there is always the chance that he goes nowhere, and winds up back on his old team. In Detroit, this is, of course, a team that invested in him. Even in sliding him to the right side, they maintained belief by not benching him but switching him to the right side. Reiff was able to see what Decker did on the left side first hand, and deep down he probably agrees that it was the right decision.

The Lions also need a right tackle bad. They would have to immediately go into the free agent market to find a replacement for Reiff. The easiest way for them to avoid that situation, and to be able to spend money and time locking up other positions would be to keep the continuity in place and bring back their veteran Reiff.

At the end of the day, there may not be much of a market for Reiff either. This is a guy who has not panned out yet. He is very raw at right tackle and saw his ups and downs. Some teams may not know where he fits best and would scrap the idea of going after him for a player with a more defined position. The Lions may know that with time he can build into a strong right tackle, and may offer him the most money. To stay with your current team for similar or more money.
