2017 NFL Mock Draft: Clemson stars dominate
By Brad Weiss
The San Francisco 49ers welcomed a new general manager and head coach this offseason, as they look to completely turn around their roster. The 49ers were once one of the best franchises in football, but ever since they played the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl back in 2013, they have been on a steady decline. Hopefully, GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan can change the culture in San Fran, with their first big test being April’s NFL Draft.
On offense, there are a ton of question marks, with the biggest being who is going to play quarterback for the team next season. While that is going to be a big decision moving forward, the 49ers will likely play it safe with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Jonathan Allen is one of the safest picks in this draft class, and he would instantly improve a very weak 49ers defensive line as the team heads to the 2017 season.
Allen is not only a solid player against the run, but he has the athletic ability to get after the quarterback on a consistent basis. As a leader for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Allen helped the Tide become arguably the best defense in college football history, appearing in two consecutive National Championship games. Some feel Allen could be the first overall pick next April, but if the 49ers can get him at No. 2, they have to make him the first selection of the Lynch/Shanahan Era.
