The 30-team NBA mega-trade that solves nothing and makes everyone mad
By Ian Levy
New York Knicks
Sending out: Derrick Rose (MIL), 2017 first round pick (MIA)
Bringing in: Mario Hezonja (ORL), Nikola Vucevic (ORL), Andrew Nicholson (WAS), Domantas Sabonis (OKC)
The New York Knicks need a massive rebuild but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Their first round pick this season is likely to be a good one but for the cost of that, and shedding the stink of Derrick Rose for the rest of the season, they get several talented young pieces.
Sabonis is an excellent rebounder and passer, and has been working on his 3-point shooting this season. He could work well in the starting lineup, next to Porzingis at center, or could pair with Vucevic off the bench if Melo was going to play power forward full-time. Vucevic’s low-post scoring provides an anchor for the second unit. Nicholson is filler but Hezonja is a former lottery pick with immense potential.
There are no sure things here, other than this trade makes the Knicks better right now.
