Portland Trail Blazers

Sending out: CJ McCollum (PHI), Ed Davis (PHX), Al-Farouq Aminu (MIA), Festus Ezeli (ATL)

Bringing in: Taj Gibson (CHI), Greg Monroe (MIL), 2017 first round pick (DAL)

Admittedly, the Trail Blazers would probably like to unload a lot more of their dead weight salary, but I’m not a miracle worker. I’m just a basketball blogger.

Giving up McCollum is tough to stomach but they get rewarded with Dallas’ unprotected first round pick this season which gives them another shot at an elite guard to pair with Lillard. In addition Taj Gibson is a nice athletic defensive-minded big who might be resigned to a reasonable deal and made part of their core as they try to improve next season.

Greg Monroe is an albatross but he has only one year left on his deal and it’s a player option. Maybe the Blazers could spend the rest of this season trying the Phil Jackson strategy of antagonism to see if they can get him to waive that last year of his deal.
