Dallas Mavericks

Sending out: Andrew Bogut (BOS), 2017 first round pick (POR)

Bringing in: Derrick Favors (UTA)

The Dallas Mavericks, are usual are caught being trying to rebuild and trying not to waste what little basketball time Dirk Nowitzki has left. Mavericks fans have been drooling over that first round pick for much of the season and that potential to land a game-changing point guard prospect. However, they’re recent run has pushed them down in the lottery — they’re currently slotted at No. 7 for lottery odds and that may even get worse as the Kings and Knicks slide past them. The chances of getting a talent like Lonzo Ball or Markelle Fultz or dwindling.

This trade moves that pick and Bogut (an unrestricted free agent who is gone at the end of the season) and lands them an extremely talented big man to build around now and for the future. Favors can play center next to Nowitzki, he’s a good defender and rebounder and has a versatile offensive game. He would vault the Mavericks right back into the playoff race next season and with a few more tweaks over the summer they could be surging towards top-tier competitiveness. In addition, Favors is just 25-years old which means he and Harrison Barnes could form the core of the post-Dirk Mavs.
