Houston Texans: 5 offseason needs
1. Safety
When looking at the defense, it is very close to being a dominant unit on paper. However, both safety positions could be looked at as the big holes, and the pieces that may make this a complete unit. Quintin Demps was the best option for the Texans last season, but he is a free agent and there is no guarantee that he will be back. However, with names such as Eddie Pleasant, Andre Hal, and Corey Moore rounding out the depth, there is a little more to be desired.
This looks like another possible option at pick 25. Jabrill Peppers is an interesting name as a guy who can be a hybrid, play in the box and play safety. This would help them with two potential needs, and gives them an athletic and versatile playmaker. However, there should be other options at safety, and in the first two rounds, you could assume the Texans could go that route.
Tony Jefferson, Barry Church, and Eric Berry are some big name free agents, and while Berry feels like a stretch, the other two would be solid fits for the evolving and talented defense. It could hold them off on addressing safety until the middle rounds, but the position should still be addressed via the draft. The best bet is that they will take a safety early, and may spend on a cheaper option like Michael Thomas to fill in as depth, or just bet on a first round talent with the depth of names around him.
