Tennessee Titans: 5 offseason needs
3. Safety
The biggest weakness of the Titans was the back half of their defense. Their run defense was top 10 in DVOA, but they ranked 26th in the NFL at defending the pass. The safety position will enter the offseason with a plethora of questions. Their depth of Daimion Stafford and Rashad Johnson are both free agents. Da Norris Searcy and now second year Kevin Bayard will be back, but neither are top of the line starters, and the Titans could certainly find an upgrade.
The big name safeties this year are Barry Church, Eric Berry, and Tony Jefferson. Berry seems unlikely, but Tony Jefferson would be an excellent fit in the defense with a diverse range of skills. Adding a big name would likely mean that neither of Stafford or Johnson is back, though.
The team also may look to the draft to add dynamic help in this area. That would allow them to keep some of their depth around but still add dynamic talent. With the fifth pick, they should be in line to decide between two potential generational talents in Malik Hooker and Jamal Adams. They also could wait until pick 18 and see if Jabrill Peppers is around. Either way, they should be looking to infuse talent into the back end of the defense this offseason.
