Nigel Williams-Goss – Gonzaga

(51.5 FG% – 37.2 3P% – 90.3 FT%)

And, of course, the driving force behind the nation’s current No. 1 team: Nigel Williams-Goss, of the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Here’s his shot chart, currently only missing games with Utah Valley, Arizona, Portland, and Iowa State.

The 3-point visual in this chart makes it look worse than it actually is, as Williams-Goss is currently at 37.2 percent on the year. Missing the Iowa State game tanks his visual, as he went 6-for-8 in the game, and has only taken 86 3-point attempts on the season. That single performance makes a big difference.

Williams-Goss works as the primary shot creator (133 assists) for a team that really only has Josh Perkins (100 assists) as a secondary option to dependably make plays for others. Just 25 percent of his 2s are assisted, per hoop-math’s numbers, though he’s shooting an incredible 57.3 percent overall on those. While clearly excellent at the rim, he’s also quite dependable from the mid-range with his pull-up game.

And he’s already there with his free throw percentage, as he’s currently hit 90.3 percent of his free throws. While it’s obviously difficult to only miss a handful of free throws for the rest of the way, he’s missed just 1 free throw in the last five games, where he attempted 39. Not a bad place to start. He’ll need to hit something around fifty percent of his 3s for the rest of the year to blow past 40 percent, but a second 6-for-8 game would be enough to push him past the mark right now.

Odds: One really hot game away
