Wake Forest’s John Collins is a bit of a frontcourt tweener who figures to carve out a role as a rotation big man at the next level. His collegiate production as a sophomore has been outstanding. He’s averaging 29.4 points and 14.9 rebounds per 40 minutes while playing 25.8 minutes per game for the Demon Deacons. Collins has also sustained his output against tougher ACC competition, scoring 20 or more points in his last 10 contests.
The 6-foot-10 sophomore is an excellent rebounder on both ends of the floor and plays with a good motor. He has a well-developed post game from his time with head coach Danny Manning and occasionally flashes a mid-range jumper. Against college competition, he draws fouls at a high rate because of his quickness.
Where Collins fits in at the NBA level is a bit more difficult to peg. At 218 pounds, he doesn’t have the size to be a full time center without adding weight and potentially losing some of his explosiveness, but more traditional power forwards are in lower demand now. Collins will likely be at his best battling second units, but his floor seems relatively safe.
