3. Linebacker

The severity of this need would come down to whether Su’a Cravens is classified as a safety or linebacker. While he likely will slot in as a linebacker mostly, it still presents a need at the position, just not a pressing one.

Aside from Cravens, the team feature Will Compton and Mason Foster at the position. Foster was solid but is a free agent in 2018. Compton could be upgraded and as a restricted free agent, there is certainly no guarantee that he will be back.

The team can go a plethora of routes to fill this position. In free agency, A.J. Klein, Bruce Carter and Kevin Minter all are upgrades over Compton, and depending on their price could either serve as depth or as a talent to start beside Cravens for the future. They obviously can also look to the draft to fill this hole.

Jabrill Peppers would be mighty interesting and would give the team more versatility up the middle than any other in the league. It is safe to say that if Reuben Foster were on the board in the first round, they would be all over that. However, like the other spots, their best bet is to find some value in the middle rounds. Adding a depth free agent and a mid-round rookie would give the unit solid depth and would fill a major hole from a season ago.
