Adrian Peterson: 5 free agency destinations
By John Buhler
Why would a 32-year-old running back want to move halfway across the country to play eight games annually in the rain? Well, the Seattle Seahawks have a lot to offer for Peterson should he ultimately sign with the Pacific Northwest’s NFL franchise.
First, Seattle plays in a very weak NFC West. The Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers are rebuilding, while the Arizona Cardinals are arguably on the downtick in their competitive life cycle. Of any NFC team, the Seahawks are the most likely to win their division next season due in large part to perceived lack of competition.
Second, Seattle needs help in the running game. The Seahawks have really fallen on hard times since Marshawn Lynch didn’t get that handoff at the 1-yard line in Super Bowl XLIX. Peterson would have to carry the burden of the workload in the ground game. Perhaps his mere presence makes them all the more explosive?
Lastly, going to Seattle would reunite Peterson with his first NFL offensive coordinator in Darrell Bevell. Bevell had been with Minnesota during Peterson’s earliest days with the Vikings. He left Minneapolis to become Pete Carroll’s offensive coordinator in 2011. Not to say Peterson would be the second coming of Lynch for the Seahawks, but Bevell would know how to best feature him in the Seattle running game given their previous working relationship.
