Jared Cook

Tight End, Green Bay Packers

One of the rare times that the Packers went outside of the NFL Draft to acquire new players happened last offseason. After he had been cut by the Los Angeles Rams, the Packers took a flyer on veteran tight end Jared Cook.

Though he played intermittently throughout the regular season, Cook will go down in Packers lore for arguably the greatest catch in franchise history. His toe-tapping grab near the sidelines from Aaron Rodgers helped send the Packers to the NFC Championship by upsetting the Dallas Cowboys on the road in the 2016 NFC Playoffs.

Cook played decently for the Packers last year with 30 catches for 337 yards and a touchdown in 10 games. He only cost the Packers $2,750,000 last season, so he was worth it in a limited role in his first season in Green Bay.

Since Green Bay used Cook more as the season went on, one would think that the Packers would like to bring him back on a second contract this spring. The only problem with that is Cook will be one of the premier tight ends hitting free agency in an incredibly weak class for the position group.

This will cause the Packers to overpay for Cook this cycle. They are not slap him with the 2017 franchise tag at a projected $9.8 million for tight ends. However, he will cost the Packers more than the $2.75 million they paid him last year.
