4. WR Anquan Boldin

Wide receiver is not a huge need for the Vikings this offseason, especially compared to some other positions. But if Cordarrelle Patterson leaves as an unrestricted free agent and Adam Thielen somehow departs as a restricted free agent depth would become a concern.

Boldin is 36 years old, and past his prime to the point where a sun-dial might be required to measure his 40-yard dash time. But he produced well for the Detroit Lions last season (67 receptions and eight touchdowns), despite averaging just 8.7 yards per catch.

Boldin has most recently hinted at retirement, while also saying if he did play next season he’d be open to returning to the Lions. A robust market for his services would not come if Boldin does decide to play, but that would be perfect for the Vikings.

With just one catch over nine games during his rookie season, the Vikings will need a lot more from 2016 first-round pick Laquon Treadwell going forward. Having a veteran mentor in his position group would surely help that maturation process, and that’s where Boldin fits right in. And if last season is any indication at all, Boldin will still offer some useful production.
