2017 NFL Mock Draft: Bears tap Deshaun Watson
By Brad Weiss
For the third straight season, the New Orleans finished up with a 7-9 record. Head coach Sean Payton became a living legend when he led the team to a win in Super Bowl XLIV, but his tenure with the team is starting to become a question mark. The Saints have enough talent on the offensive side of the ball to win games, but their inability to stop the opposition has to be frustrating for Saints fans.
At No. 11, the Saints should look to bolster one of the biggest weaknesses on their roster. The defenisve secondary proved in 2016 that they cannot stop anybody, so bringing in a shutdown corner is the way to go in the first round. Sidney Jones is a fantastic cornerback prospect, who became one of the best at his position in a very pass-happy Pac-12 during his time with the Washington Huskies.
Jones’ ability to shut down one side of the field helped the Huskies earn a berth in the College Football Playoff last year. Jones not only is great in coverage, but his quick feet enable him to make plays on the ball that most cornerbacks cannot get to. The Saints need more than just one player to upgrade their secondary, but bringing in a player like Jones is certainly a great start to that rebuilding process.
