Corey Davis

WR, Western Michigan

With the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Carson Wentz out of North Dakota State. During his rookie season, Wentz was thrown right into the fire, as the team traded expected starter Sam Bradford towards the end of the preseason. Wentz had his fair share of bumps along the way, but it is clear that the Birds have found their franchise quarterback for at least the next ten seasons.

The biggest problem with Wentz’s development last season was the team’s lack of a true star at the wide receiver position. Jordan Matthews did a decent job in that role, but no defense was truly scared of him torching them for over 100 yards on a consistent basis. Matthews would absolutely thrive in a WR2 slot, meaning the team needs to bring in a true WR1 prior to the 2017 NFL season.

The 2017 NFL draft class has a couple of legitimate wide receiver prospects, and Western Michigan’s Corey Davis is definitely one of them. Davis may actually be the first wideout off the board, but if not, the Eagles need to select him to shore up one of the bigger deficiencies on their offense. Wentz is going to be a good one, and bringing in someone he can rely on in tough situations is going to go a long way in his development as a franchise quarterback.
