2017 NFL Mock Draft: Bears tap Deshaun Watson
By Brad Weiss
The Chip Kelly mistake in San Francisco ended in one season, as the team made wholesale changes to their front office this offseason. The organization brought in former NFL star defensive back John Lynch to be the team’s general manager, a move that was quite scrutinized by the public. A head coach, Kyle Shanahan will get his first chance to be the main man in charge after leading the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick met with Lynch this past week, and incredibly, the meeting went very well. There is a legitimate chance that he remains with the team as the starting quarterback, and with the job Shanahan did with Matt Ryan last season, Kap has to be happy with that. Expect Lynch to draft defense with his first pick as the team’s general manager, and that player should be Jonathan Allen from Alabama.
Allen has the skills to completely change a defensive front for a team, possessing the ability to play inside or out. Not only is he great at stopping the run, but he also is one of the best players in this draft at getting after the quarterback. The 49ers need to stockpile talented players who can do more than just one thing really good, and Allen definitely fits that mold within this draft class.
