2017 NFL Mock Draft: Bears tap Deshaun Watson

The New York Giants had a very successful season in 2016, as they utilized a rejuvinated defense to make it back to the playoffs for the first time in five seasons. While they were beaten pretty badly by the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round, the organization has to be happy with where the team is headed. On Monday, the team announced they will be placing the franchise tag on defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, which means they should have a solid defense once again in 2017.
The real issue with the Giants last season was that the offense was too vanilla, which is incredible considering they have Odell Beckham Jr. on their team. OBJ is one of the more electric players in the league, but despite the fact that he once again had a terrific season, the Giants failed to move the ball with any consistency last season. The Giants should be even better in 2017, and while the Dallas Cowboys won the NFC East last season, New York did beat them twice.
Quarterback Eli Manning continues to put up solid numbers, but he is definitely getting up there in age. The time has come for the Giants to think about their future at the quarterback position, and Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes II could be a guy they go with at No. 23. He has all the talent needed to be a big-time quarterback in the league, and playing behind Manning for a couple of seasons would give him the kind of seasoning he needs to take over once Manning hangs up his cleats for good.
