2017 NFL Mock Draft: Bears tap Deshaun Watson
By Brad Weiss
Prior to the 2016 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans swung a trade with the Los Angeles Rams, giving up the first overall selection in that draft. The Titans already had Marcus Mariota entrenched at quarterback, so there was no need for them to draft Jared Goff or Carson Wentz, the top two picks in the draft. Due to that, the Titans will draft twice in the first round, with the No. 5 overall pick coming thanks to the poor effort the Rams displayed on the field last season.
With their first of the two first round picks, the Titans should look to bolster their secondary, and Marshon Lattimore of Ohio State is the best cornerback in this draft. Lattimore has the ability to shut down one side of the field, and his ability to come up and make plays is going to make him a difference maker at the next level. Ohio State has had one of the better defenses in college football the last few seasons, and Lattimore is a big reason why.
Tennessee is very close to being a playoff team, and had Mariota not broken his leg in Week 16 last season, they may have actually taken the AFC South. The division should be up for grabs once again in 2017, so with a good draft, the Titans could head into the season as the favorites to win it. Mariota and the offense is going to put up points, and if the defense can improve, the Titans should be a team to watch out for next season.
