Davon Godchaux

Defensive Tackle, LSU Tigers

This one hurts. The LSU Tigers have had a long history of putting out some of the best athletes you’ll ever see on the football field. From wide receivers to cornerbacks to defensive linemen, LSU just does it better than most Power 5 programs.

However, LSU defensive tackle Davon Godchaux easily cost himself a round or two by his performance at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine. He was viewed as a day two selection. Now it’s almost inevitable that he’ll go no earlier than the fourth round.

Godchaux had the fourth-slowest 40-yard dash time of 5.27. He also put up a surprisingly weak number of bench press reps at only 18. That was the fourth-worst among defensive front-seven players which included pass rushers.

He literally didn’t do anything else at the scouting combine. While speed was not expected from the defensive tackle prospect, power was. Godchaux is going to have to kill it at his pro day in Baton Rouge if he wants to get back into the third-round conversation.
