Dalvin Cook

RB, Florida State

The Indianapolis Colts lost the coin flip against the Philadelphia Eagles to see who would pick at No. 14 in April’s NFL Draft, and will now have to settle for the 15th overall selection. Indy had a rough season in 2016, though despite playing inconsistent football, actually had a chance to make the playoffs late in the season. The Colts have a bunch of holes to fill on both sides of the ball, with bringing in a quality, young running back being a need heading into the draft.

While Leonard Fournette has gotten much of the hype in this running back class, Dalvin Cook may actually wind up being the better pro. Cook was a do-everything back for the Florida State Seminoles, breaking Warrick Dunn’s career rushing record in only three seasons. The speedy back is going to be an impact player at the next level, and the Colts need someone who is going to take some of the pressure off of Andrew Luck.

The Colts have a terrible offensive line, and with Frank Gore getting up there in age, they cannot afford to allow teams to pin their ears back and get after Luck. There is no doubt that Luck is a franchise quarterback, but he cannot continue to take the beating he has in recent years. This Colts team has a ton of explosive weapons on offense, and if they can bring in Cook in the backfield, they could challenge in the AFC South next season.
