2017 NFL Mock Draft: Mitchell Trubisky to 49ers
By Brad Weiss
The Tennessee Titans played a better brand of football than the fans have seen in a long time in 2016, as Marcus Mariota became a legitimate starter in the NFL at quarterback. The running back tandem of DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry proved to be lethal, and Delanie Walker showed what a veteran tight end can do for a team. At wide receiver, the Titans were a bit light on talent, though Mariota certainly made do with the likes of Tajae Sharpe and Rishard Matthews.
If Mariota is to make the next step in his development, the organization has to commit to drafting an elite wide receiver in this draft class. Mike Williams of Clemson is an incredible talent at the wideout position, and while he may not be available at No. 18, the Titans have to take him if he is still there. Williams showed how incredible he can be at the position during the Tigers’ National Championship win, where he shook off what looked to be a concussion to help his team to the improbable victory.
Tennessee has a ton of draft picks in April, and they should head into the 2017 NFL season as the favorite in the AFC South. While Mariota is developing into a stud, the influx of young talent should keep this team good for a very long time. Williams would be a huge upgrade over the players they have at wide receiver right now, and putting him at the top of the depth chart would make the position a strength for the team in 2017.
