2017 NFL Mock Draft: Mitchell Trubisky to 49ers
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants finally made the playoffs after a five-year hiatus in 2016, though the celebration was short-lived. The Giants were bounced in the Wild Card round by the Green Bay Packers, though the season was a positive in many ways. The defense played extremely well in Ben McAdoo’s first season as the team’s head coach, and all signs point to the Giants going in the right direction.
Quarterback Eli Manning continues to perform for the Giants, though he is starting to get up there in age. Manning was consistently picking himself off the turf last season, so the Giants need to bring in some help along the offensive line. Garett Bolles of Utah is a freak of an offensive tackle, and he put on quite a display during the 2017 NFL scouting combine. Bolles ran a sub-5.00 40-yard dash, while bench pressing 235 pounds 34 times.
Bolles could stay at left tackle at the next level, and that is exactly what the Giants need as they head into the 2017 season. The running back situation is going to be an issue in New York, so there is going to be added pressure on Manning to get the ball to the likes of Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard. If Manning does not have time to throw, it will be another year out of the playoffs for the Giants next season.
