2017 NFL Mock Draft: Mitchell Trubisky to 49ers
By Brad Weiss
The Dallas Cowboys came out of nowhere to be the No. 1 seed in the NFC Playoffs in 2016, as their fourth-round rookie starting quarterback earned Rookie of the Year honors. Dak Prescott took over for the injured Tony Romo in the preseason, and after losing in Week 1, he helped the team reel off 11 straight wins. Add to the fact that Ezekiel Elliott led the NFL in rushing as a rookie, and it is clear the Cowboys struck gold during the 2016 NFL Draft.
As the Cowboys head to the 2017 draft, they have some holes they need to fill on defense. The Cowboys magical season ended in a loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round, as they dropped their only game at home. Aaron Rodgers was given too much time to throw the ball, and in the end, it was an incredible pass to Jared Cook that sealed the Cowboys fate.
In the first round in April, the Cowboys need to bring in a quality pass rusher. Carl Lawson from Auburn is not getting a ton of recognition around the country, but he certainly should be. He is as explosive off the ball as any player in this draft class, and he would be a perfect edge rusher for the Cowboys next season. Dallas is going to be good for a while, but they have to shore up the deficiencies on defense if they hope to at least win a game in the playoffs.
