2017 NFL Mock Draft: Mitchell Trubisky to 49ers
By Brad Weiss
The Atlanta Falcons basically had the Super Bowl title in the palm of their hands. Team owner Arthur Blank was down on the sidelines, and the expression on his face as his team blew a 25-point second half lead was worth a thousand words. The Falcons gave the New England Patriots their fifth Super Bowl win, and now the team has to fill the holes so they can take the next step.
While the offense was the stuff of legend this past season, the Falcons do need to bring in someone who can dominate at the tight end position. Jacob Tamme led a group of five Falcons that caught at least one ball from the position last season, and he had only 22 receptions. David Njoku of Miami (FL) is a freak of nature at the the tight end position, and Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has to be dying for a pass-catching tight end like he had in Tony Gonzalez early in his career.
Njoku put on a nice display at the NFL Scouting Combine, and you have to think he is locked in as a first round pick. He has incredible size and speed for someone who plays the tight end position, and that is really the one area of need for the Falcons on offense. Ryan threw for nearly 5,000 yards last season, so you have to believe he could eclipse that mark if he can get a tight end who can make the big plays on a consistent basis.
