2017 NFL Mock Draft: Mitchell Trubisky to 49ers
By Brad Weiss
The New York Jets were supposed to be a playoff team in 2016, after falling one game short of the playoffs the year before. Prior to the season, the team locked up quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on a one-year deal, rewarding the veteran for a record-breaking season the year before. Fitzpatrick played terribly all season long, eventually losing his job to Bryce Petty, who did not do much with the position either.
As the Jets head to the offseason, they have already started the rebuilding mode. The team released wide receiver Brandon Marshall, cornerback Darrelle Revis, and center Nick Mangold to name a few, signalling the start of a new era in New York. New York need to draft a quarterback in April to continue with their fresh start, and no quarterback had a better scouting combine than Deshaun Watson
We had already seen the incredible performances by Watson, and now the scouts wanted to be wowed at the combine. Watson did just that, cementing his place as a first round pick in April’s draft. The Jets need a new face of the franchise, and if Watson can bring the kind of winning attitude he displayed in college to the pro level, they should be able to stick Watson in at quarterback for the next ten years.
