4. The Romo clan doesn’t have to move across country, or pay income taxes

Romo is in the twilight of his NFL career. He’s not going to play in the NFL past 2020. Romo has been a great player with the Cowboys for a long time and has made his home in the Lone Star State since landing in Dallas as an undrafted free agent.

He has a young family and has already made a ton of money as the star quarterback for the Cowboys. It would have to take the right situation to pry the Romo family out of Texas for him to keep playing football.

By signing with the Texans in unrestricted free agency, Romo would by only two hours away from his family. He and his family wouldn’t have to move if they didn’t want to and they wouldn’t have to pay income tax. It’s one of the many perks about playing professional sports in Texas.

From a business standpoint, it makes the most sense financially for Romo to go play for the Texans if his time with the Cowboys has come and gone. He’d also get to be playing in the country’s fourth-biggest media market in Houston and be the second biggest star in the AFC besides New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. CBS would love that.
