3. A top wide receiver duo

Their numbers were generally down last season, but Demaryius Thomas (90 catches for 1,083 yards and five touchdowns) and Emmanuel Sanders (79 catches for 1,032 yards and five touchdowns) each topped 1,000 yards for the third straight campaign together. Among wide receiver duos around the NFL, it’s hard to find many (if any) that are better.

Thomas and Sanders worked very well with Manning, so the transition to Romo would presumably be fairly seamless. Romo has worked extensively with a top-level receiver in Dez Bryant, but Sanders would be better than any No. 2 wide receiver Dallas has had recently.

Thomas and Sanders are basically it in Denver’s passing game, often for better but perhaps for worse from a certain perspective. No one else even had 35 receptions last season, and Jordan Norwood’s 21 receptions were the next best among Broncos’ wide receivers. Finding a more viable No. 3 wide receiver may be on Denver’s radar in free agency, and they were rumored to be interested in Victor Cruz when he was cut by the New York Giants.

Romo, if he can stay on the field, can bring Thomas and Sanders back toward the level of production they enjoyed when Manning was in the fold. Their presence should be a selling point for Elway and the Broncos, if Romo really needs major convincing when it comes down to it.
