1. The Browns still have No. 1 and No. 12 in the 2017 NFL Draft

Not only did the Browns get better at quarterback, but they didn’t have to give up either their No. 1 or their No. 12 overall picks in the 2017 NFL Draft. Cleveland would have had to give up probably both to land Jimmy Garoppolo in a deal with the Patriots.

New England had all the leverage in that deal, so Cleveland exited those negotiations to orchestrate their own brilliant power play. By not taking the bait with a Garoppolo trade, Cleveland has essentially pulverized Garoppolo’s trade value considerably.

They don’t need him in 2017. The Browns can wait until 2018 free agency to sign him if they really want to. Honestly, can still use either one of its first round picks to take a project franchise quarterback and not have to start him right away this fall.

Cleveland should do the right thing and take the best player available at No. 1 in Texas A&M Aggies defensive end Myles Garrett. At No. 12, the Browns could do a lot of things, including moving up or down to draft a franchise quarterback. Remember that Cleveland is only on the hook for Osweiler through this upcoming season financially. Who would have thought Cleveland would be winning the early part of free agency? The Browns are making good moves.
