Torrey Smith: Agrees with Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles are adding to their receiving corps on Thursday, bringing in recently-released Torrey Smith. Smith, originally a second-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2011, has struggled recently. Last year with the San Francisco 49ers — in the second year of a five-year pact — caught 20 passes for 267 yards in 12 games.
Smith, 28, has elite speed but struggles with running the route tree. In Philadelphia, this might not jive with the skills of Carson Wentz, who likes to throw shorter routes.
Grade: C
Mike Glennon: Agrees with Chicago Bears
This is the big news at the quarterback position. Glennon has thrown 11 passes total over the last two seasons, and is now getting $19 million guaranteed over three years. The guess here is the contract is structured in a way that keeps Glennon in town for two seasons, and three if he’s performing well.
The risk is large for general manager Ryan Pace, but understandable. The quarterback class in this year’s draft is average, and his job might be on the line. If Glennon turns out to be a solid quarterback, this contract will prove a steal. If not, it’s someone elses problem in 2018.
Grade: B
Kenny Britt: Agrees with Cleveland Browns
Cleveland has more than $100 million in cap space and has begun spending. Britt, 28, comes to Cleveland after having a bit of a renaissance last year with the Rams. In 15 games, Britt caught 68 passes for 1,002 yards, the best mark of his career.
While he’s not a burner, Britt runs solid routes and provided the Browns’ next quarterback with a large target. If Cleveland can retain Terrelle Pryor, it has a trio of solid options with Britt, Pryor and Corey Coleman.
