WWE 205 Live

Following the events on Monday Night RAW, I was hoping that Austin Aries would get a chance to shine on this episode and for the most part he did just that. He was out in the ring to interview himself to open the show and I thought he nailed it. He talked about his eye injury and how it forced him to do some commentary but now that he’s back, he wanted to make a statement and go right to the top, which is why he did what he did to Neville. The champ comes out and tells Aries that he’s making a huge mistake by coming out of the booth and the two had a very nice encounter here to further the program that will likely be the division’s big match at WrestleMania. Good opener.

Noam Dar is shown in the back questioning Jack Gallagher and Rich Swann about the flowers that were sent to Alicia Fox last week and then Gentleman Jack had hip-hop explained to him by Swann. Funny enough, I guess.

Gallagher and Swann take on Dar and Ariya Daivari next and this may have been the best I’ve seen Daivari look. He worked with a lot more aggression than he usually does and that made me care about the match a bit more. These four worked at a nice pace and pretty much everyone outside of Dar was able to show off a little bit with Swann and Gallagher picking up the victory. Following the match, a delivery guy brought some chocolates to Alicia Fox in the back and Dar ran him off after taking the credit. Good match. I could do without the other.

Akira Tozawa is finally getting his one-on-one match with Brian Kendrick, but it’s a Kendrick impostor and Tozawa dispatched of him in just over a minute. The payoff better be really good on this whole thing.

Austin Aries and Tony Nese are set for the main event but not before Neville bashes Aries for the things he’s been saying and says that a new number one contender will be set next week.

As for the match, I thought this was pretty good. Some folks may have wanted Aries to be a little more dominant here to make him long strong as he starts this feud with the champ but I think it was good that he took some shots here. It proves that while he’s still good and picked up the win, it’s tough to get wins in this division, especially when you’ve been out of the ring for a little while.

Overall, this was a good episode that kept things moving.
