Malik McDowell

DT, Michigan State

There is no doubt that the Atlanta Falcons have built a juggernaut offensively, as quarterback Matt Ryan won his first NFL Most Valuable Player Award, after throwing for nearly 5,000 yards last season. The Falcons have a dominant two-headed monster at running back in Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, and Julio Jones is one of the best wide receivers in the game. The offense was not the problem last season, as the defense was seen as a bit weak up front throughout their incredible run to Super Bowl LI.

Bringing in some talent on the defensive line has got to be a priority, as the Falcons could use someone to plug up the middle. Malik McDowell of Michigan State is one of the best true defensive tackles in this draft class, and would fill a role the Falcons have valued this free agency period. The Falcons were looking at Dontari Poe or Kawaan Short, but neither is likely going to be coming to the team.

The NFC South is going to be a beast in 2017, as every team in the division has the talent to make it to the playoffs. If the Falcons do not improve on their defensive interior, it will be very tough for them to repeat in the NFC. The Falcons struck gold with Vic Beasley in the first round two years ago, as he has developed into a premier pass rusher. If the Falcons can put some muscle in the middle of the defensive line, they are going to be very hard to beat in 2017.
