Mike Williams

WR, Clemson

The Tennessee Titans have two picks in the first round in April, and we fully expected them to draft a cornerback with the fifth overall pick heading into last week. However, the team went out and signed Logan Ryan away from the New England Patriots, giving them another solid corner alongside Jason McCourty in the Titans’ defensive backfield. With the fifth pick, look for the Titans to bring in that true WR1 Marcus Mariota needs to take the next step in his development, and that pick should be Mike Williams.

Williams showed during his time with the Clemson Tigers that he is the best wide receiver in college football, and capped off his collegiate career with a gutsy effort in the National Championship Game. Williams shook off what looked to be a bad head injury to make big play, after big play for the Tigers, helping them to the upset win over the Alabama Crimson Tide for the national title.

As the Titans head into 2017, they have to be happy with where their organization is heading. Trading the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft proved to be a stroke of genius, as the jury is still out on consensus first pick Jared Goff. With a healthy Mariota for next season, the Titans should be a playoff team, but it will all depend on whether or not the new pieces can gel in time in a very tough AFC South division.
