2017 NFL Mock Draft: Free agency provides shakeup
By Brad Weiss
It is definitely time for a rebuild in New York for the Jets, and that has certainly been the play this offseason. The Jets said goodbye to some of their best players already, as center Nick Mangold, wide receiver Brandon Marshall, and cornerback Darrelle Revis were all given their pink slips. It is a new era of football for the green and white, and replacing the play of Revis in the secondary has to be a priority in the first round.
The Jets went quarterback in the second round last year, and it is very unlikely that they will pick a quarterback early in April. There has been some word that Christian Hackenberg is getting better, and the 2017 NFL season could be one where the team goes back to Geno Smith at quarterback if Hackenberg is not ready. The Jets could venture into the free agent class as well, as Jay Cutler has expressed interest in coming to the team recently.
Marshon Lattimore has to be the first cornerback off the board in April, and he would instantly slide into the spot left vacant by Darrelle Revis. Lattimore is an incredible ballhawking corner, who could definitely take away one side of the field at the next level. Head coach Todd Bowles is a defensive guy, and with a high pick in April, he will be looking to improve on a unit that was an absolute joke at times during the 2016 season.
