Jonathan Isaac

SF/PF, Florida St.

This is the first of two first round picks for the Sacramento Kings, a franchise now fully in rebuilding mode after shipping Demarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of the trade deadline. With it, the Kings select Jonathan Isaac, a 6-foot-11 combo forward out of Florida State who has the potential to be an elite NBA roleplayer and could develop into more if adding strength to his frame begets additional athleticism.

Isaac struggles to create on his own because he lacks the type of explosive first step to beat defenders off the bounce, but he’s an excellent complimentary offensive player who can shoot off the catch and slash. The 19-year old has made 35.3 percent of his 3-point attempts this season and shoots a high percentage from the foul line. He’s also shown this season that he can play within the flow of an offense as he’s on a roster with other ball-dominant guards.

Isaac also brings high level defense. He’s excellent using his length to get into passing lanes and challenge shots at the rim. This season, he’s averaging 1.8 steals and 2.3 blocks per 40 minutes.

Isaac will face the latest rendition of ‘Dunk City’ when the Seminoles take on Florida Gulf Coast in the opening round ahead of a potential matchup with either Maryland or Xavier in the round of 32.
