2017 NFL Draft: Houston Texans: 7-round mock
By John Buhler
Fourth Round
With defensive tackle Vince Wilfork possibly heading towards retirement, it would be advantageous for the Texans to draft a player along the defensive line. Grabbing North Carolina Tar Heels defensive tackle Nazair Jones at No. 131 in the fourth round makes a good bit of sense here.
Keep in mind that new defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel played in the defensive front seven for the Patriots. Houston also retained former defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel as assistant head coach. He played in the trenches in college at Western Kentucky. They can get the most out of Jones’ talent at the next level for sure.
Losing cornerback A.J. Bouye to the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency isn’t ideal, but Houston can find a replacement for him in the 2017 NFL Draft. Keep in mind that Bouye went undrafted out of Central Florida in 2013.
Adding Florida State Seminoles cornerback Marquez White at No. 142 in the fourth round could be a good value play here. White showed great footwork in man coverage during the Reese’s Senior Bowl. He may not have a huge NFL ceiling, but he could be a candidate for early playing time in the right defense, possibly Houston’s.
