WWE NXT

We started NXT this week with The Ealy Brothers wanting to exact a little revenge on Authors of Pain for beating them down before their match last week — and this was never going to end well for the jobber twins. They actually did get a couple of shots in early but a vicious clothesline put a stop to all of that. A couple of powerbombs and the Last Chapter ended the bout pretty quickly. This whole thing went about 90 seconds. Following the match, Paul Ellering cut a quick promo on The Revival but #DIY came out and got involved, which led William Regal to finally make the triple threat match for the titles at TakeOver. We’ve known this was where things were headed and this could be a great match in a couple of weeks.

Following an Asuka video package, we’ve got action in the women’s division with Nikki Cross taking on Macey Estrella and this was a squash. Nikki won after hitting five neckbreakers and has set herself up to be next in line for the title once TakeOver is done. Tye Dillinger and No Way Jose hit the ring following the match to attack SAnitY but the numbers game was once again too much for them and Jose got a beating as Dillinger was forced to watch. A six-man tag was announced for next week. I thought they might hold off until TakeOver and that still might happen anyway.

We got another Tommy End … err, Aleister Black video and I do like how these are looking. I still don’t like the name change but that’s WWE for you.

A recap of Ember Moon taking out Billie Kay was shown and Andrea D’Marco was looking to get an update on Kay’s condition but instead ran into Andrade Almas bullying Ho Ho Lun. Oney Lorcan came in to stand up for Lun and now we’re getting a match with Cien and Oney next week. Okay.

The NXT Championship match between Bobby Roode and Kassius Ohno obviously closed out this week’s episode, and while I thought this match was good, I think it could have been better. The two commercial breaks certainly didn’t help matters. Seriously, stop putting breaks during title matches. And what’s worse is that this isn’t the USA Network. This is on the WWE Network. Do we really need to be reminded again that WrestleMania is coming up? Ohno controlled the match early on but Roode turned things around after a few minutes and things did get pretty slow there for a while but the action was much better near the end and both guys got some nice spots in. I love that flipping Stunner from Kassius. However, it wasn’t enough as Roode retained with a Glorious DDT and will go on to face Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of TakeOver, which should be great. Ohno will likely hold the title at some point when some of these guys hit the main roster but he looked good in his first match back.

This was a decent episode. The title match was good and the TakeOver card is finally taking shape. The six-man tag next week should be pretty solid and will give us a better idea of how a few of these guys will be used at TakeOver.
