Manchester United: Timothy Fosu-Mensah

There are few better ways for a young player to break into the first team than by being versatile, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah is nothing if not versatile. The 19-year-old is a defensive midfielder, center-back and full-back all in one.

The Dutchman, who’s also eligible to play for Ghana, has made his young career out of keeping his cool in tight situations. He made several appearances for United under former manager Louis van Gaal, and showed a composure well beyond his years. Of course it helps that he’s an athletic phenom who’s already developed enough physically to compete with senior players.

Fosu-Mensah has already shown he can put the ball on the front foot and push the pace, but he’s also an adept defender in one-on-one situations and if he has anything to learn positionally, Jose Mourinho’s a great manager to have. Being flexible, and adapting to what the team needs is important, especially given the defensive options already at the club. Mourinho’s notorious for not giving young players a chance, but Fosu-Mensah’s flexibility and talent might be too good to pass up.
